Oral History Network

Welcome!

Welcome to the Warwick Oral History Network. We are an interdisciplinary network engaged in theoretical and practical issues involved in interviewing for research. We offer a variety of academic seminars and workshops which are open to all, as well as guidance and support for people's oral history projects. Use this website to meet our members, find out about our events, and explore examples of the research being undertaken at Warwick and in the local community.

Call for participants: Warwick Museum of Climate Stories - share your stories of the campus environment

Have you had a memorable experience on campus that made you think differently about your relationship to the natural world?

To mark 60 years of Warwick as a place where people have been forming relationships with the landscape, we’re looking for stories about your encounters with the plants, lichens, trees, fungi, insects, and animals with which we share our campus. We’re interested in any experience you found meaningful, weird, unsettling, or otherwise enriching, from a bluebell walk to a bee sting.

We welcome a range of storytelling styles, and would love to hear from students, staff members, alumni, and anybody else with a connection to the university.

Please email us your stories at museumofclimatestories@warwick.ac.uk, either in writing (up to 1000 words, pdf or word document), or as a recording (up to 5 minutes, MP3 or Wav form) by September 15th, 2025.

If you are unsure about how to bring your story to life, we also have opportunities for you to work with our story-facilitators, so please do get in touch if you would be interested.

The stories will be collected online as part of the University of Warwick 60th Anniversary celebrations and will become part of the University archives. Some of the stories will also be developed into short videos by the Culture and Media Policy Studies Media Lab and will be shown at an event in the Autumn Term of 2025.

Please do get in touch if you have any questions. You can read more about the project here: https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/scapvc/ccmps/research/impact/callforsubmissions/

Got an idea for an event or need support with a project?

If you've got an idea for an event, want us to help you organise or promote something, or if you're working on a project which involves oral history or interviews and you need help with anything (e.g. ethical approval, consent forms, reaching out to interviewees, conducting the interview), we are happy to advise. Email: oralhistorynetwork@warwick.ac.uk

Irish Women's Oral History

Network members recently attended a wonderful talk by the Una Gan A Guna team, who are working to collect and preserve the stories of Irish women. Have a look at their work, get involved with their project, or make a donation on their website. You'll also find them on Instagram and X.
